Abstract

The evolution of the second-order hyperpolarizability upon elongation of the π-electron path in a molecular backbone is addressed. In particular, two experimental techniques to investigate hyperpolarizabilities are shown: degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) in counterpropagating geometry; and third-harmonic generation (THG).
