Abstract

Gut contents of Acartia bifilosa and Eurystemora affinis, temperature, salinity, chlorophyll pigments and suspended particulate matter concentration (SPM), were measured during tidal cycles, in different seasons, in this highly turbid estuary. Phytoplankton ingestion, estimated between 165-569 ng C. cop-1.d-1 for E. affinis and 133-545 ng C.cop-1.d-1 for A. bifilosa did not seem sufficient to sustain copepod metabolism. An exception was found for A. bifilosa during a phytoplankton bloom period, with a daily ingestion from 1256-1654 ng C. cop-1.d-1. -from Authors
