Abstract

The axial and radial mixing characteristics of 250Y corrugated stainless steel sheet structured packing were investigated by the method of introducing tracer into two experimental columns of 300 and 1000 nun in diameter. Air and water media were employed to simulate the vapour and liquid flow. Dye solution was used as a tracing material injected into the φ300 mm column to study axial and radial (overall) mixing, and hot water was used as the tracer in the φ1000 column to study mixing along the radial (x) direction, i.e. parallel to the corrugated sheet, and the perpendicular radial (y) direction. The coefficients of backmixing in the corresponding mathematical models were estimated by the optimization method employing a non-linear/programming technique. The significance of the results obtained are discussed.
