Profile Information

The Earth Science & Engineering Program (ErSE) comprises three separate yet connected tracks

Research in the Solid Earth Track is focused on understanding the mechanics, thermal, and structural history of plate boundary deformation and its seismicity and volcanism. We develop new measurement and processing methods in exploration geophysics, and advanced computational & data-analysis methods to study the Earth interior. Educating and mentoring students and young researchers for their careers in academia and industry is one of our key objectives to achieve KAUST’s mission.

Research in the Fluid Earth Track use theoretical and experimental methods to study physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere, ocean, and soils with the aim to protect the environment, to map solar and wind renewable energy resources, and to develop comprehensive predictive models of natural and human-induced hazards in the ocean and atmosphere

In the Energy Geo-Engineering & Science Track, we aim to advance fundamental multidisciplinary research, to create disruptive technology, and to educate academic and engineering talent to address the world’s pressing problems in energy geo-engineering and science.
